A survey carried out in 2018 by Provokers with 3.200 Brazilians, of different ages and social classes, revealed that online video consumption in the country grew 135% compared to 2014 – an average, per person, of 19 hours per week.

Therefore, if you are still in doubt, know that introducing more and more videos into your corporate training is what will make a difference. The ease of monitoring and absorption of content by employees gives videos, in most cases, more clarity, dynamism and agility.

And so that you already have a good idea of what to do with the videos, in this article we have listed the main trends of what is happening both in Brazil and in companies abroad. Check it out below.

1. Home production

Many people who work in training and development stop making videos because they think that productions need to be Hollywood-style. Be aware that, if this is your case, you are wasting time and many opportunities.

Today, even mid-range cell phones already capture images and audio in a super acceptable way. Add to this a space in the company with good lighting and a more neutral background, and that's it! You already have a mini studio to start recording your videos.

It seems simple and it really is! A tip here is to record with the camera still, using a tripod as a base, and use resources such as slides or writing in flipchart to complement the content.

2. Video as part of microlearning

Here on the blog we have already talked about microlearning a few times. Simply put, it is the offering of content in small content tracks, with very clear objectives at the end of each one. Good resources for applying this method are through games, infographics and, of course, videos.

Unlike long training trails, producing short videos doesn't take as much work to execute, from creating a script, through capture, to final editing.

Therefore, bringing the format to microlearning will further encourage employee engagement in taking courses and subsequently applying them in their daily lives.

3. Interactive format

Just like microlearning, bringing interactivity to your videos encourages participation from your trainees. In the interactive format, students stop being mere spectators and guide their learning through optional trails.

You start to build a decision tree for your videos, that is, the collaborator receives feedback according to the content and path they followed, based on the options selected.

A practical example: at a certain point in a video, the content is paused, and the viewer needs to decide which path to follow, clicking on option X or Y on the screen. This decision making engages those in front of the screen, making the learning experience personalized.

4. Contributors generating content

Yes, the responsibility for thinking, creating and disseminating content does not need to be retained in the training and development area. Increasingly, other departments also need to be knowledge generators. After all, each professional has a different skill, right?

The arrival of generation Z in the job market also helps in this regard. People of this generation are generally more familiar with videos, which helps the format to proliferate.

Additional social features to these videos, such as voting, “likes” and comments increase employee engagement, both those watching and those behind the screen.

5. Video in gamification

You have most likely already had some contact with this term. In fact, gamification, or gamification, has also been the subject of an article here on our blog. Working with games keeps people connected to a purpose, as well as being fun and encouraging competition.

The Gartner report, called Gamification 2020, cites gamification, combined with other technologies, as a preponderant factor in increasing employee performance.

So why not put videos in this context? They can serve as an introduction to the rules, be part of the game dynamics themselves (remember interactivity?) or even be a channel for tips for completing a challenge.

We hope you enjoyed learning about the main trends when it comes to video applied to training and development.

The final message of this article is that you get your hands dirty, start producing your videos and make the format part of your company's people development culture.
